Linseed oil is pressed from the ripe seeds of the flax plant.

Pure refined linseed oil is used in the finest artists’ oil colours. Small amounts added to oil paint slow drying and enhance flow. Also used in making oil mediums. Refined linseed oil, in small amounts, can be used as a simple medium to soften oil paints and enhance flow. This is particularly useful for ‘alla prima’ techniques (quickly painting wet on wet, with paint straight from the tube). Refined linseed oil can also be used for cleaning valuable brushes.
